May 2011 – SYNAPSE is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS) Course in August 2011. This course will be aimed at residents, physicians and nurses working looking to expand their knowledge and skills in critical care medicine. We plan to offer this course on a bi-annual basis. April 2011 – Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) is coming to SYNAPSE in July 2011! SYNAPSE has been approved by the American College of Surgeons to sponsor this prestigious course for surgeons and emergency medicine physicians. The inaugural ATLS course will be held July 6 & 7th at Synergy Medical. Many of our high fidelity simulators will be utilized, and standardized patients will be moulaged to resemble trauma victims. SYNAPSE will be offering ATLS 2 times per year, each July and February. The next scheduled ATLS course is February 20 & 21, 2012. Contact Peggy at (989) 583-6985 if you are interested in attending.
April 12, 2011 – Dr. Steve Vance, Peggy Ursuy & Cheryl Such attended the Emergency Medicine Residents Association of Michigan (EMRAM) conference on the campus of Michigan State University to conduct the 2nd annual EMRAM SIMWARS competition. Emergency Medicine residents from throughout the state attended the conference. Seven teams participated in the competition: Detroit Receiving Hospital, Sinai Grace Medical Center, Genesys, St. John’s Medical, Synergy Medical Education Alliance, Beaumont, and Michigan State University - Lansing.
March 2011 – SYNAPSE and St. Mary’s Medical Center (SMMC) have partnered to provide in-hospital mock code team training on a monthly basis. Dr. Vance and his training team are looking forward to planning and executing a dynamic training curriculum.
March 9-11, 2011 – Dr. Steve Vance presented “E-learning: Overview, Development, and Deployment” at the American College of Emergency Physicians Teaching Fellowship in Dallas, Texas. Good luck Dr. Vance!
February 2011 – SYNAPSE and Covenant HealthCare’s Labor and Delivery Unit conducted post-partum hemorrhage drills over 2 separate days. Sharon Panepucci RN (L&D unit educator) worked closely with the SYNAPSE staff to present the staff nurses with an exciting and challenging critical patient scenario. The high-fidelity simulation featured our Noelle birthing simulator in the L&D unit at Covenant HealthCare.
January 22-26, 2011 – Benny Turner, Jesika Galivanes, Jennifer Calzada, Steve Nelson, and Steve Vance presented “Hitting the Trifecta of Course Production: Lessons Learned in Center-Based, In-Situ and Mobile Program Course Delivery” at the 11th annual Society for Simulation in HealthCare national conference in New Orleans, Louisiana.
October 2010 – SYNAPSE and Covenant HealthCare have partnered to conduct mock code blue training on Covenant’s inpatient units. . Staff responders will have the opportunity to implement their basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) skills in a safe, non-threatening, yet realistic environment in which there is no risk to patients.
