The Ob/Gyn Residency is based at Covenant Healthcare-Harrison
in Saginaw where about 3,500 deliveries are performed
each year.
Residents are exposed to a variety of surgical procedures,
and are trained extensively in laparoscopic procedures, both
in benign gynecology and gynecologic oncology.
Residency Director Henry Moon, M.D., Associate Director Lori Wylie., Assistant Director Ronald Hazen,
M.D., Assistant Director Shirley Layko, M.D., Assistant Director Michelle Duncan, M.D., and Assistant Director Renee Sundstrom, D.O. are devoted full-time to the education and supervision of
the ob/gyn residents. They all have extensive experience in the
general ob/gyn practice.
There are two full-time board certified MFM specialists available
for consultation in high-risk obstetrics. They also provide training
for the residents in obstetrical ultrasound.
Our Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility is under the
direction of Dr F. Nicholas Shamma who is a board-certified reproductive
endocrinologist. This rotation allows residents exposure to the latest
in Assisted Reproductive Technologies, including IVF, ICSI as well as IUI.
In addition, residents have the opportunity to assist in surgeries for infertility,
transvaginal ultrasounds and infertility related research.
We have a Gyn-Oncologist that works with us providing 2 days
of ambulatory gyn-oncology and 2 operative days. The PGY-3 year
will receive 3 months on this service. As a PGY-4, the resident will spend 3 months as Oncology
Chief, increasing responsibilities in both surgical and in ambulatory
care.
