During their fourth year of training,
residents develop the skills to become capable, independent practitioners
and consultants. They spend four months as chief resident in obstetrics,
four months as chief resident in gynecology, and four months as
chief resident in ambulatory ob/gyn. This allows for quality time
to obtain ample teaching and administrative experience.
During all four years of the training program,
residents have the opportunity and are provided the time and funding
to attend at least one conference or national meeting of their
choice each year of training.
Didactics
Residents have a minimum of six hours a
week of protected time for conferences. Weekly conferences on obstetrics,
gynecology, gynecologic oncology, high-risk pregnancy, primary
care, and reproductive endocrinology and infertility are all provided.
The academic conference schedule for the entire department includes conferences
on the subjects of perinatal medicine, reproductive endocrinology, gyn oncology,
and gyn pathology, as well as grand rounds and a guest speaker program.
Ambulatory Care
Starting in the PGY-1 year, residents will start in Ambulatory Care seeing obstetrical
patients. Additionally, the PGY-1 resident will help staff our off-site clinic
- Jane Street Academic Community Health Center.
Starting in the PGY-2 year, continuity clinic will be established. This will allow
the resident to develop his or her own group of patients to be followed over
the next 3 years.
Residents spend learning time in the Ultrasound
Clinic, Colposcopy Clinic, Reproductive Endocrinology
and Infertility Clinic, and the Gynecologic Oncology Clinic.
