The surgery program in Saginaw Michigan has much
to offer. We provide a rich educational experience in a variety
of clinical settings. The curriculum encompasses
education in basic science, cognitive and technical skills, development
of clinical knowledge and maturity, and acquisition of surgical
judgment. |

Our operating suites are equipped with state of the art equipment
and technology including six brand new state of the art suites. |

We offer training in a wide range of surgical subspecialties
including vascular, trauma/critical care, cardiothoracic, burn,
plastic, urologic, gynecologic, neurosurgical, and pediatric
surgery. |

There are no other surgical residency or fellowship programs
to compete with. |
|
Residents who desire to continue on with their education in
a subspecialty fellowship are encouraged to do so and have no
problems obtaining a fellowship after graduation. |

We host medical students year round from several medical schools
including Michigan State University. Our residents receive an
academic appointment from Michigan State University. |

Access Surgery is provided for the residents. This is a web based program broken up into 13 four week blocks which includes identified reading assignments, videos detailing operative procedures and questions for each block. We also have access to journal articles via Pub Med and OVID as well as covering an assortment of on line based textbooks. The curriculum topics are organized into 28 organ system-based categories divided over 13 blocks to complete a one year course off study. The numerous educational topics have been categorized by the SCORE-patient care curriculum classification systems. |

As a chief resident you are given the opportunity to attend a week long “Specialty Review in General Surgery” course (Osler Course). Residents are not required to use vacation or conference time days to attend the course and Synergy pays for all travel, lodging, registration and meal expenses. |

Residents who present at national or local conferences have all expenses paid for by Synergy for up to three days. |

One of the most frequently asked questions is “What
does Michigan and Saginaw offer outside of work?” Michigan
may not be New York City, but it does have a lot to offer in
the way of extracurricular activities and hobbies. |

Hunting and fishing are
a big part of Michigan culture and industry. There are hundreds
of lakes, rivers and unpopulated land which is ideal for these
purposes. |

In addition to hunting and fishing, Michigan offers a wide
variety of extracurricular
activities including nature hikes, mountain biking,
camping, and sailing. |

Michigan boasts some of the biggest and best golf
courses in the country. Many courses are conveniently
located within driving distance of Saginaw and
in other parts of northern Michigan. |

Michigan also offers several other locations appropriate for
weekend getaways and
vacations. Some of the more choice locations include Mackinaw
Island, Traverse City, Ann Arbor, and Frankenmuth. |

Saginaw offers convenient shopping,
family fun centers, parks, and golfing. There are also many chain
restaurants and family owned restaurants. |

The MBS (Midland/Bay
City/Saginaw) airport is located within 15 to 20 minutes from
Saginaw and offers convenient flights to most locations. |
