Peter Bistolarides MD F.A.C.S.

Dr. Bistolarides is an Assistant Program Director of General Surgery at Synergy Medical Education Alliance. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He currently holds the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor of surgery at Michigan State University.

Dr. Bistolarides is a native of Toronto, Canada, and has resided in Michigan since 1994. He attended the University of Toronto and received a MD degree from its medical school, and an MBA from the business school. He completed his residency in general surgery in the University of Toronto postgraduate surgery program. He joined Synergy in 2006 after 20 years of private surgical practice in both Ontario and Michigan.

Aziz Merchant, M.D.

Dr. Merchant is an Assistant Director of Surgery with Synergy Medical Education Alliance.  He was born in Bombay, India, however grew up in Totowa, New Jersey.  He received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Chicago and his MD from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University.  He performed his general surgical residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC.  This was followed by specialty fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatrics, and Endoscopy at Emory University in Atlanta.  He has also performed basic science research in fetal immunology and stem cell transplantation at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
