PGY 3

General Surgery – 8 months
Plastic/Burn – 1 month
Pediatric Surgery – 2 months

Vascular Surgery – 2 months
Cardiothoracic Surgery – 2 month

PGY 5

General Surgery – 12 months

  Surgical Grand Rounds
Surgical Grand Rounds is a CME certified conference that is held every Thursday from 7:30 am to 10:00 am.
Every second Thursday, grand rounds is dedicated to a combined Emergency Department and Surgery Department “Trauma Grand Rounds” from 7:00 am to 10:00 am.
   
  Morbidity and Mortality
Morbidity and Mortality conference occurs in conjunction with Surgical Grand Rounds and is a minimum of 45 minutes.
All residents are required to submit a morbidity, mortality, or interesting case.
   
  Basic Sciences and Mock Orals
The basic sciences lecture and mock orals are held every Tuesday from 7:00 am to 8:00 am.
The basic sciences session consists of written and verbal questions prepared by the Academic Director of Surgery.
Mock orals are conducted by faculty surgeons or guest surgeons two times per year, once in Saginaw and once in Grand Rapids, MI
   
  Journal Club
Journal Club is held on the second Tuesday of every month from 6:00 pm - to 8:00 pm.
   
  Tumor Conference
Tumor Conference is held every Tuesday & Thursday from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
Residents are encouraged to participate in didactic presentations and discussions.
   
  Additional Lectures
Basic science and surgical lectures may also be provided by Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Henry Ford Hospital and by other departments within Synergy Medical.
   
Educational Goals and Objectives for the Synergy Medical Surgery Program are provided for each of the specialty areas. Goals and objectives are reviewed and updated annually by each department.
