Family Medicine

One of the oldest accredited residency programs in the nation and the first to be accredited in the state of Michigan.
 
A broad spectrum of clinical problems are seen in the Family Medicine Center and in Saginaw's two major hospitals.
 
Opportunity to perform many different procedures in the Department's Procedures Center, including flexible sigmoidoscopy, colposcopy, LEEP, no-scalpel vasectomy, nasolaryngoscopy, infrared coagulation of hemorrhoids, cyrosurgery, joint injections, minor office surgery, and skin surgery including flaps and plasties.
 
Strong supportive relationships with full-time and volunteer community faculty, including obstetrical, perinatology, and pediatric sub-specialty faculty.
 
Wide range of electives from which to choose, with the opportunity for one-on-one teaching from a full array of specialists.
 
Department-directed clinics in Office Procedures and Ambulatory Geriatrics provide unique training opportunities.
 
Nationally acclaimed faculty that have presented multiple presentations at state, regional and national levels, as well as serving as teaching faculty for the American Academy of Family Physicians.
 
Of the programs' over 200 graduates, over half have remained in Michigan, many still practicing in the surrounding Saginaw area.
 
Annual resident outings, cross country skiing, canoeing and camping trips.
