Emergency Medicine
During the Emergency Medicine clerkship, the student will:
- Develop skills to quickly establish a doctor/patient relationship in the busy Emergency Department, while assessing the patient's complaint in an effective and efficient manner.
- Gain an understanding of the initial clinical approach to and the management of multiple medical, surgical, and traumatic conditions and learn an expedient, priority-directed evaluation of emergency medicine patients.
- Gain an understanding of the relationships between the Emergency Department and the other hospital departments, other members of the medical staff and pre-hospital care systems.
- Gain additional experience in radiographic and electrocardiogram interpretation.
- Be exposed to and develop skills in emergency procedures including airway management, wound care, splinting and establishing vascular access, etc.
