Emergency
Medicine (HM 630)
During
the Emergency Medicine clerkship, the student will:
- develop
skills in quickly establishing a doctor/patient relationship
in the busy Emergency Department, while assessing the patient's
complaint in an effective and efficient manner
- gain
an understanding of the initial clinical approach to and the
management of multiple medical, surgical, and traumatic conditions
and learn an expedient, priority-directed evaluation of emergency
medicine patients
- gain
an understanding of the relationships between the Emergency Department
and the other hospital departments, other members of the medical
staff and pre-hospital care systems
- gain
additional experience in radiographic and electrocardiogram interpretation
- be
exposed to and develop skills in emergency procedures including
airway management, wound care, splinting and establishing vascular
access, etc.
