| The interview process | ||||||||||||
Hopefully you can interview on a day that we are having conference and will be able to join us for part of it to see how we interact with each other. The program director will give an overview of the program with up-to-date statistics about the program and general information that answers a lot of common questions. You will then be together with all the applicants in our conference room and have time to look through our scrapbooks, watch resident videos, and/or just chat with several residents. Meanwhile, 3-4 attendings (including the program director, assistant program director and an attending from St. Mary’s of Michigan and from Covenant) will each interview each applicant for about a half hour. We will give you a tour of the hospitals, answer any questions you have, and feed you lunch. The whole interview day will run from about 8am to 3:30pm. We hope your experience is a great one and that you strongly consider joining our family in emergency medicine. |

| Common Questions | ||||||||||||
A few common questions are frequently asked about our program. We do review applications and accept residents with prior training and from international medical schools. International medical graduates must also have a valid ECFMG certificate and visa. Synergy Medical Department of Emergency Medicine offers no employer-sponsored visas for graduate medical education trainees. Synergy Medical Department of Emergency Medicine does not offer observerships. We have no minimum requirement for USMLE or COMLEX scores, but do require successful completion of Part I and II in time to obtain a Michigan license to start residency on July 1st. Ideal candidates will have passed these Board exams on the first testing and will have completed medical school no more than five years ago. We do require three letters of recommendation to be submitted, with at least one from an emergency physician who has worked with the applicant in an U.S. emergency department setting. |
